Eating a popsicle proved to be the ideal way to celebrate the beginning of a new school year, as hundreds turned out for “Popsicles on the Porch” on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.

Aviva Wasserman, Literacy Specialist for Kindergarten, first, and second grade

In addition to Aviva’s work in Kindergarten with small group literacy instruction, she will work with the K-2nd grade teachers implementing our new Wilson Fundations Spelling program. Her small group literacy instruction in second grade classrooms will support the work of Trish Blackwell, first grade literacy specialist.






The cast of Seussical Jr. has been rehearsing in the auditorium all day, every day since August 4, but the show is at Ingram Hall.

As you buy your school supplies, remember that Metro teachers get only $200 to spend in their classrooms for the entire year. All month the HS Community Service Club is collecting supplies to donate to Metro classrooms. Read more.

Alex Spieth
’09 won the Maddy Summer Artist Award in repertory theatre production at the Interlochen Arts Camp this year. She went to Interlochen on USN’s 2008 Mary Interlandi Scholarship, which annually gives a high school student a full scholarship to a 6-week program in the arts at Interlochen.




Murphy Spence ’12 and Forest Miller ’12 placed in the top ten in a poetry contest they entered last year in eighth grade, receiving a $50 savings bond and a copy of the contest anthology.





This summer first grade teacher, USN alumna, and (as you can see) artist Betsy Hoffman painted this piano, which is in the Bennett Klein Story Room of the Hassenfeld Library.
