Intramurals
University
School of Nashville encourages the complete physical development of each
student through physical education classes and athletic team competition.
Coaches and teachers challenge
students by emphasizing personal skills and the value of team sports.
Students
in Lower School explore fundamental movement and games in non-competitive
settings in a daily program which includes dance, swimming, gymnastics,
and field games. This developmentally designed curriculum becomes the
foundation for future growth and team participation.
The Middle
School curriculum introduces students to more sport-specific skills and
games through activities emphasizing sportsmanship and physical achievement.
A comprehensive interscholastic program allows for competition in the
Harpeth Valley Athletic Conference against a combination of local public
and private schools. Intramural sports provide team play within grade
levels.
All High
School students fulfill specific course requirements including fitness,
safety, and weight training. Students enrolled in physical education also
learn strategies for a healthy lifestyle. Varsity teams play in the Tennessee
Secondary School Athletic Association against area high school teams
in the regular season and compete in district, regional and state tournaments
in many sports. Younger, less experienced athletes have opportunities
to compete on the Junior Varsity level. Other sports are also offered
at the club level.
In
University School's physical education and athletic programs, skills
of teamwork,
commitment and goal-setting transcend the playing field.
Athletics
at University School of Nashville are supported by the Tiger
Club.
USN field
teams play their home games at the USN River Campus (directions).
