Announcing artclectic 2007’s Studio Days!
New this year, during artclectic 2007 (based on the ideas and philosophy of The Scrap Exchange*), we will open the Art Studios in the Tibbott Center for children of all ages. With the help of USN art faculty and talented volunteers kids are invited to create a unique piece of art. The coolest part is we are creating the art from things we would normally recycle or throw out.
SO, not only will this project be creative and fun it’ll be green too!
WAIT! Don’t throw that out!!! Artclectic needs your stuff!
Please start collecting:
- wine corks, bottle caps, can tabs
- pool noodles, packing peanuts, card board, bubble wrap
- buttons, beads, stones, marbles, felt, fabric scraps, wall paper, scrap paper, yarn, ribbon, string, burlap, tissue paper, wrapping paper
- drinking straws, paper/plastic/Styrofoam plates, cups, napkins, plastic utensils,
- game pieces, doll heads/parts,
- egg cartons, yogurt containers, plastic bottles (all sizes), paper towel/TP tubes
Or anything along these lines (items that are clean and safe).
This should be a great way to take materials that may otherwise have been thrown away and make something creative and artistic!
If you have any questions or WOULD LIKE TO HELP with this amazing project please contact Ursula Weaver 269-0032 or ursula_weaver@bellsouth.net .
Then drop them off in morning hook up every THURSDAY MORNING starting Sept. 6th through Oct. 4th. OR Drop off in Lee Ann Merrick’s office in the Tibbott Center.

The mission of The Scrap Exchange is to promote artistic creativity and strengthen community and environmental awareness by providing opportunities for children of all ages (2 to 100 years old) to produce art and other useful things from discarded materials that have been salvaged and transformed. The Scrap Exchange is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that collects clean reusable industrial discards for creative reuse. We reduce waste and supply the public with useful, inexpensive materials in our Durham, North Carolina Creative Reuse Center.
