about artclectic
artclectic provides a unique arts forum for University School of Nashville and the community by showcasing a diverse selection of quality art. This weekend show and sale has netted nearly $400,000 for USN and its programs since its debut as an annual event in 1997, thanks in great measure to each year’s dedicated cadre of all-volunteer committee members and supporters. In addition to its primary fundraising mission, the show gives rise to valuable arts education opportunities for USN’s students and the Nashville community, including artist demonstrations, class show tours, and discussions with the artists (see “Education Day”).
2002 was a transition year. Professional lighting, giant hanging panels, and dramatic music truly transformed the Tigers’ gym into a world-class art gallery. artclectic 2006 marked the 10th anniversary. Thirty “favorite” artists from the past joined a group of artists selected by a distinguished group of art professionals, and 30 percent more art was sold than ever before.
Again this year, for arclectic 2007, over 100 artists submitted work in the hopes of being included in the show. Our juror this year, Wendy H. Outland, was the manager of Blue Spiral 1, a premier three-level, 14,000 square foot gallery in Asheville, North Carolina for 12 years and now serves as a consultant to arts programs and artists on a national scale. She currently serves on the boards of the American Craft Council – Southeast Region and Handmade in America.
We are excited about the fresh variety of the offerings: over half of this years’ exhibiting artists are new to artclectic, and their ages range from 20 to 90 years old.
