about artclectic
artclectic provides
a unique arts forum for University School of Nashville and the community
by showcasing a diverse selection
of quality art.
This
weekend show and sale has netted over $350,000 for USN and its programs
since its debut as an annual event in 1997, thanks in great measure
to each year’s dedicated cadre of all-volunteer committee members
and supporters. In addition to its primary fundraising mission, the show
gives rise to valuable arts education opportunities for USN’s students
and the Nashville community, including artist demonstrations, class show
tours, and discussions with the artists (see “Education
Day”).
2002
was a transition year. Professional lighting, giant hanging panels,
and dramatic music truly transformed the Tigers’ gym into a world-class
art gallery. artclectic 2006 marks the 10th anniversary. Thirty “favorite” artists
from the past join a group of artists selected by a distinguished
group of art professionals.
Over 100 artists submitted samples of
their work, and their variety and their level of accomplishment
were extraordinary.
The jury panel
consisted
of David Heustess, Nicole Pietrantoni, and Nancy Saturn. Heustess
is a Nashville artist who works in clay and textiles. Currently,
he directs
and teaches at the Sarratt Art Studios at Vanderbilt University.
David has been teaching for over 10 years since earning a BFA degree
from
the Appalachian Center for Crafts. Saturn is owner of American
Artisan, recognized
by Niche Magazine as one of the top ten Galleries of Contemporary
Crafts in the United States. She also founded the American Artisan
Festival,
now in its thirty-seventh year. In April, Nancy was re-appointed
to a four-year term and will retain her current position as chair
of the
Metro
Arts Commission. Pietrantoni is the director of the Visual Arts,
Crafts, and Media Program at the Tennessee Arts Commission and
the curator
of the Tennessee Arts Commission Gallery. She is an art critic
for artclectic
sponsor Nashville Scene and Vice-President of the board for the
Southern Graphics Council, the largest printmaking organization
in North America.
